Stone Soup Croutons, 10-12-22: A Misanthrope's Résumé

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

Carla Schwartz gave an amazing live reading on Wednesday. You really should buy her books. I experimented with this week's Crouton. I took the barest of notes on the same pad of paper I used to write out the open mic list. Mostly single words. Barely a phrase.

No going back. No recording of the night other than spots with Carla, which I haven't revisited yet.  

I hope to post one of those videos of Carla soon, as the product below doesn't do the night justice. It's getting late in the morning and I have other things I need to do. 

My week doesn't end until Sunday night. Maybe I'll catch up with some of you then. Thanks for reading.

The first Stone Soup of October was this past Wednesday. It was a fun night. I finished writing my rough draft of today's poem last night. Getting back fully on the Stone Soup one careful step at a time. I should be at the live show with Carla Schwartz next week. More live shows, more live dates, will be announced. 

I'm happy and nervous about this. I'm doing a lot more poetry work in the months to come, which makes me more nervous. That's why I'm getting this poem out to you now so I can focus on other things. 

Turns out I don't write poems with "Misanthrope" in the title as much as I thought I did. So here's one more. Thanks for reading.

Computer Programs Can't Wave!

My Zoom froze up at the end, and I was revealed to be a soulless computer program incapable of waving. Thanks to those who were able to wave before I did a hard shutdown. Carla Schwartz is returning to Stone Soup since her last feature over eight years ago. I've been trying to get her back for a while, and the stars have finally aligned. She'll be back in Boston in October and Stone Soup in the Seaport area fits in nicely with her schedule. Hopefully, I'll be back hosting if everything goes well with my girlfriend's injury. If not, I have faith in the people who have stepped up so far to make sure Stone Soup still has a presence.
