Good Bye and Good Riddance, August

As far as Stone Soup is concerned, August is already gone. Thanks to everyone who came out to last night's all-open mic. Announcements coming. Really.

Help

Get me  out of here so I can host tonight's Stone Soup all-open mic.

August 28: Stone Soup Takes it Slow for a Night

Between my illness and the terrible news over the past few days, I was not able to secure a feature for this week. So now I'm having another last minute open mic this Wednesday night, welcome to any of my fellow surviving poets who want to keep close for a while.

Join us on August 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM ET by clicking this link.

The meeting ID is 886 1937 7443

Stone Soup Croutons, 9-20-23: Commuting to Eleusis

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have a book collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

Summer is over. Randy Barish was our official last feature of the summer. It was Randy's first ever feature, and I messed up with the Zoom link, making sure his first time, like most people's was awkward and messy. I'm glad people were still able to enjoy it, and Randy did a good job bouncing from scene to scene, season to season, in his work.

It was an odd mixture of styles that night, and I'm not naturally a nature poet, so it was fun to put this short piece together.

Have to get back to work and promote Richard Spisak's feature this coming Wednesday.

Thanks for reading.

July 19: Stone Soup Circles Around Again

I thought I might have to be absent this week and selected a guest host. That ended up not happening. The guest host will return (hopefully with a guest feature). For now, join me this Wednesday night for more all-open mic hijinks.

Join us on July 19 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM ET by clicking this link.

Stone Soup Croutons, 10-12-22: A Misanthrope's Résumé

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

Carla Schwartz gave an amazing live reading on Wednesday. You really should buy her books. I experimented with this week's Crouton. I took the barest of notes on the same pad of paper I used to write out the open mic list. Mostly single words. Barely a phrase.

No going back. No recording of the night other than spots with Carla, which I haven't revisited yet.

I hope to post one of those videos of Carla soon, as the product below doesn't do the night justice. It's getting late in the morning and I have other things I need to do.

My week doesn't end until Sunday night. Maybe I'll catch up with some of you then. Thanks for reading.

Stone Soup Croutons, 10-5-22: The Misanthrope Orientation Package

The first Stone Soup of October was this past Wednesday. It was a fun night. I finished writing my rough draft of today's poem last night. Getting back fully on the Stone Soup one careful step at a time. I should be at the live show with Carla Schwartz next week. More live shows, more live dates, will be announced.

I'm happy and nervous about this. I'm doing a lot more poetry work in the months to come, which makes me more nervous. That's why I'm getting this poem out to you now so I can focus on other things.

Turns out I don't write poems with "Misanthrope" in the title as much as I thought I did. So here's one more. Thanks for reading.

Stone Soup Croutons, 9-28-22: Notes from the Unattended Misanthropes Meeting

Long week. Summer's gone. Stone Soup said bye this past Wednesday. My camera wasn't working, but I fixed it yesterday. Took me hours.

That might explain why my post seems abridged and this poem is shorter than normal.

I could use the extra time to catch up with everything else. Hopefully, this will result in new Stone Soup events to announce.

Thanks to Jan for the title that helped me make another list poem. Those are always easier to write.

Fall is here. Rejoice. Take in the cold air. Thanks for reading.
