FOR THE LOVE OF WORDS

Artist Interviews & Performances

Thursday May 19th 2016, 7-9 pm

Poet Lawrence Nunes: is a Minister, Community Leader, Poet, Singer, Actor & Playwright. He’s a founding member along with fellow Poet/Actors Marlon Carey, Art Collins, & Yunus Quddus of 'Brother's Keeper’, a poetry theater ensemble that empowers young males to work hard to reach their potential. He’s published 2 books & has been the opener for Peabo Bryson, Denise Williams, Patti Austin, James Ingram & ‘The Funk Brothers’, who are known for being the sound behind many successful Motown artists. As a community leader Lawrence is dedicated to improving the lives of those suffering with homelessness & drug addiction. He’s a member of the mentoring initiative ‘300 Men’ & served in the United States Navy.

Musician Ilene Springer: is a Singer/Songwriter & guitar player. Her radiant voice, impassioned guitar playing & discerning lyrics set the stage for a musical experience that is both elegant & stirring as well as dramatic & sassy. With her Dad as a classically trained pianist who also writes musicals for community theatre, it wasn’t long until Ilene was in the high school chorus & in her early teens started writing her own songs. Influenced by John Denver, Barbara Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, Adele, & Eva Cassidy, Ilene hopes her music makes a difference in peoples lives. She performs at festivals & venues as well as on cable TV & radio. She’s recorded 2 original CDS- ‘Love Passing Thru’ & "Matter of Time’. Her latest release ‘Gotta Be Brave’ is due out by the end of this Summer.

From Rich Berg:

FOR THE LOVE OF WORDS
Artist Interviews & Performances

Thursday March 3rd, 2016, 7-9 pm

Poetry Artist: Alice Kociemba is a Psychotherapist, Author, Poet, Venue Host & Workshop Facilitator. She is a member of the Advisory Board &
Program Committee of the Mass Poetry Festival & the Guest Editor for Common Threads, an annual outreach project by Masspoetry.org. Alice has been published in many literary magazines, interviewed by The Boston Globe, the Cape Cod Poetry Review & is the author of Death of Teaticket Hardware, which won an International Merit Award from the Atlanta Review.

Alice does most of her writing in the morning from her house overlooking the Coonamesset River . ‘This is the place you relax & unwind from the stress in the world’, and where she authored her new poetry book Bourne Bridge published by Turning Point Books. She can be reached through
Facebook & Masspoetry.org.

Music Artist: The Senescents are Steve Gabovitch & Diane Barry. This duo features at music festivals & local venues & are regulars at many open mic’s. Their renditions of favorites as far back as the 50's are superb as they switch between melody & harmony several times during a song without missing a beat. With strong vocal harmonies as are their calling card, it’s easy to get wrapped up in songs such as "Brown Eyed Girl" & "California Dreaming."

Diane has a gospel choir background that includes the Boston Pops Community Choir. Steve’s been singing & playing guitar & flute in duos for over 15 years. The Senescents are simply a joy to listen to. They can be found on Facebook & their website, TheSenescents.com
