Hidden Charm Press is now accepting submissions for the print anthology Extra MoJo! #3. Guidelines are on the site. Kindly spread the word. Facebook has blocked the site's link as "hate speech," and I have deleted the HCP Facebook Page, cutting down submissions considerably.

2021 marks HCP's 10th ke. The online journal MoJo! -- which inspired the print journal -- launched in 2008. Black women's voices always matter around here! Please help to keep the press going.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

RIP Margie Shaheed

I heard from Mignon Ariel King that Margie Shaheed passed away this weekend. My condolences to Mignon, Margie's family and the lucky poets who knew her.

Thanks to Mignon, I was lucky to have her be one of the final poets to feature at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery's final Cambridge location. I was always hoping for her to return, and I'm sorry that didn't happen.

Mignon also published a collection by Margie, which I recommend you get today.

November 9: Mignon Ariel King Brings Tell-Tales to Stone Soup

Mignon Ariel King has been on a roll these past few years, publishing great work of her own and others through Hidden Charm Press and now Tell-Tale Chapbooks publishing Tell-Tale Inklings #1 this past summer. She's been touring local venues to promote the release of this new anthology, and Stone Soup is her next stop. Be in the audience a pick up the remaining copies of Tell-Tale Inklings while you can.

Yesterday at Poetry: The Art of Words

Yesterday, Girlfriend and I headed down to the Plymouth Center for the Arts and it's monthly venue Poetry: The Art of Words to see my colleague Jason Wright of Oddball Magazine, who debuted his first poetry collection A Letter to The World.

His best reading yet.

Also reading, appropriately enough, was Mignon Ariel King, who, published Jason's full-length collection through her press, the ironically named Tell-Tale Chapbooks. She read a selection of her upcoming collection, a poetic primer of Boston based on the alphabet and the MBTA. The latter could use the publicity this this collection could generate.

Mignon uses my photos for her author photos. This won't be one of them. I'll do better!

Mignon also has a new memoir from Hidden Charm Press, a memoir entitled Dropping the Mask: non-Academic reflections of a womanist writer, available if you visit Amazon or drop the money at one of her readings (one of which will hopefully be at Stone Soup Poetry later this year).

After both features, Jason, his ride, Oddball Art Director TJ Edson and I took a break outside to look at Plymouth Rock, which was only minutes walking distance form the Center. My first time seeing it, too!

I really thought you could sit on it!

Poetry Features Mignon Ariel King and Jason Wright

Open-Mic Refreshments including anniversary cake and everyone present will receive a gift from us.

Mignon Ariel King was born in Boston City Hospital, a third generation New England book nut. She holds a Master of Arts in English degree from Simmons College. She is the publisher of Hidden Charm Press and Tell-Tale Chapbooks. Her poetry has been published in various journals, and four books from her multi-genre autobiography are currently in print. She is writing a book of poems based on Moby-Dick and will soon publish a book of 27 modern women's fables, Ramshackled.

Jason Wright, creator and Editor of Oddball Magazine, is a Graduate of UMass Boston, recent guest on Wheel of Fortune, and self proclaimed champion of mental illness. He has been published in Oddball Magazine 1-5 and Oddball Magazine online. Jason was given the English Award of Achievement at Bunker Hill Community. He is the host of the Decompression Sessions a Podcast online, and a recently retired series at Johnny D's in Somerville. He has been featured on Talk Up with Charlie Peters, and a frequent performer at The Middle East, Cantab Lounge, Cafe Luna, and other local venues. He currently resides in Somerville, MA.
