Yesterday

I was bad at taking pictures yesterday. Managed to get this one of Anna Geoffroy and Ethan Mackler performing at yesterday's celebration of Jeff Taylor. I'll post video later.

See Me at Contro-Verse Open Mic This Monday

I'm honored to feature at the Urban Media Arts in Malden as part of the Contro-Verse open mic this Monday, June 9, with the doors opening at 6:30.

I'm honored to have been given this feature by the late Jeff Taylor and inspired that his fellow Garage Poets, Ana Geoffroy and Ethan Mackler, have continued this series.

Urban Media Arts in Malden is on 145 Pleasant Street and is easily accessible by public transportation. I hope you come if only to take part in the open mic.

Stone Soup Croutons, 3-26-25: Hitting Our Peaksville

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have a book collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

This week we had our first open mic since Jeff Taylor's passing. We hope you can take time to support his family and listen to some of our words about him. That won't be the last time this happens.

I went into this open mic and this poem a blank slate. There are nods to Jeff at the end thanks to Rich Boucher. And thanks to Mary Jennings for the idea for the "Twilight Zone" inspired title.

There's a poem I always wanted to write for Jeff and the Garage Poets crowd from the early days of their online Zoom open mic. I haven't written it yet, but I'm glad I got through this poem. Maybe I can write that elusive poem now.

Thanks for reading.

Tonight at Contro-Verse

From the Contro-Verse Facebook page:

Hi everyone. Jeff Taylor was the co-founder of this event and as you may have seen in another post we lost him this weekend. We’re all fucking wrecks, but the show will go on, as he would have wanted.
Urban Media Arts - UMA 145 Pleasant St in Malden. Doors at 6:30, show ends at 8pm sharp. Bring your tissues, your laments, your memories and unrelated tangents. Smoke em if you’ve got em but please not in the studio.

We will have a hat to pass for the Taylor family, link below if you prefer to donate online or would like to sign up for the meal train.

A Friend's Tribute to Jeff Taylor

Glad to provide a photo for Ryan "Rat" Travis' tribute to Jeff Taylor. Thanks to him, and thanks to you for reading Oddball Magazine on this somber day.

RIP Jeff Taylor

Jeff Taylor missed last week's Stone Soup open mic. This was not unusual as his work hours could include evenings (though he often signed in just to listen). I didn't think much of it or the fact that the Contro-Verse Open Mic he co-organized didn't have any info posted for this Monday. The last gathering had been cancelled due to multiple illnesses. Not too surprising given the flu going around on top of the quademic.
