Stone Soup Croutons, 3-26-25: Hitting Our Peaksville

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have a book collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

This week we had our first open mic since Jeff Taylor's passing. We hope you can take time to support his family and listen to some of our words about him. That won't be the last time this happens.

I went into this open mic and this poem a blank slate. There are nods to Jeff at the end thanks to Rich Boucher. And thanks to Mary Jennings for the idea for the "Twilight Zone" inspired title.

There's a poem I always wanted to write for Jeff and the Garage Poets crowd from the early days of their online Zoom open mic. I haven't written it yet, but I'm glad I got through this poem. Maybe I can write that elusive poem now.

Thanks for reading.

Stone Soup Croutons, 4-17-24: Final Act

Last week, Sue Savoy featured at Stone Soup Poetry. Then many things happened between Friday and Monday morning, making this crouton poem very late. I'm glad I got the video of Sue's reading up as it was very well received.

I still have this week's Crouton to write. The best way to push through when you have self-imposed deadlines is to write your poem like you're writing a Sue Savoy poem (or try to anyway).Sue's poems are fun to listen to, so it was fun to make the attempt.

Thanks for reading.

Stone Soup Croutons, 4-3-24: Mourning Commute

Happy National Poetry Month. Rich Boucher started us out in style. One of the funnest online open mics I've been part of. There was even dancing. Another perfect night I had little to do with. Listen to Rich read and buy his book.

This poem was as much fun to write as I knew it would be. Been seeing a lot more Palestine graffiti while walking to work. That and the recent bombing of people dispensing food gave a jolt to this. Kind of new what the ending was going to be like because of Rich's set. Just needed the rest of the readers to give it form.

Thanks for reading.
