Totally Absent in 2024: My Tanka Poems

No Jesus Tanka. No Tanka 'bout Town. I hit a wall and haven't written any good tanka in a while. It's been even longer for the town tanka. Two years! Even the Jesus Tanka I published at Five Fleas was written years prior.

I need to get out more. Touch grass. Touch concrete even. Take more photos. Hopefully, that will happen in the new year. Maybe we'll go see the fireworks on New Year's Eve if we are all feeling better. That will put me in the right mood.

As for the Jesus Tanka or Jesus poems in general? Aside from the "Palestinian Jesus" reference on Christmas, those might be dead for the near or even far future. I can't bear the thought of writing another "Donald Trump Jesus" poem in any kind of form.

At Long Last

After four long years, I get to write the capstone to my "Donald Trump Jesus" poems. Here is "Donald Trump Jesus Epilogue." The first DTJ poem (which I really, really thought was a one-off) had artwork by DL Polonsky. It's only fitting that his art be used for the final poem. Thanks to DL and everyone who has enjoyed the reluctant series over at Oddball Magazine.

A Painful Tradition

On the eve of Donald Trump's "ascension," I wrote my first "Donald Trump Jesus" poem. I'm now on my fifth one. I dearly want the next one to be an epilogue.

Whatever happens, I'm grateful to Eric N. Peterson for his amazing artwork.

Read "Donald Trump Jesus, Chapter 5," at Oddball Magazine. Then please go out and vote.

Resistance Persists

Michael Broder calls them "Resistance Tankas." Hides the fact that they're more Jesus poems. Reel 15 is up now at What Rough Beast.
