My Friday Evening Music

Thinking about whatever will get me through the next two nights of COVID. Happy Holiday weekend, everyone.

My Friday Morning Music

Because I just had to let go of the idea of being productive while with COVID.

My Friday Morning Music

For my...day today, I'm focusing on a friend who should be here with us now but isn't. My friend Dan loved Beatles and John Lennon in particular. I remember him rocking out to this song as it was playing in my car. I hang on to memories like this to this day.

My Friday Night Music on a Saturday Afternoon

Forgot to post this mashup of Smash Mouth and John Lennon(!) by Neil Cicierega. I'll do another parody mashup later in the new year.

My Friday Morning Music

Tried to find more songs meant to rally "The People." Of course, all this week I've been wondering what happens when "The People" are the problem in the first place.

My Friday Evening Music

Heard this song while heading home last night. Sums up my post-Thanksgiving perfectly.

Your Weekly Dose of God

U2 came out with a song in response to John Lennon's "God." Thought it was kind of pretentious to do that. Most interesting part is that there are lyrics attacking a writer of  Lennon's biography. But would even remember the guy who wrote Lenon's biography if not for this song?

My Friday Evening Music

Bookending today with another John Lennon song.

My Friday Morning Music

What a coincidence. I just downloaded this on my iPhone this morning, and it's the last day of my hardest work week in months!

Your Weekly Dose of God

I first heard "God" by John Lennon as part of a Beatles documentary (playing during a montage of their breaking up, if memory recalls).

Whatever you feel about the song, there's one thing we can agree on, whatever our religous divide:

"God, Part 2" by U2 is way worse.

Don't agree? Fight me. I'm in that kind of mood.

Advent Calendar, Day Sixteen

Decades ago one winter morning, My friends and I headed up to Wachusett Mountain to do some skiing. As we were waiting for our passes and gear, music was blaring out from the ski lodge. One of the songs being blared was a cover of  John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," which (among other changes) substituted the chorus of "War is over if you want it/War is over now..." with "Merry Christmas everybody/Happy New Year everyone..."

I was disgusted over the changes this version had made. I've since carried that disgust all the way to today when I finally searched for the cover and found out Andy Williams was the singer.

Worse, there's one YouTube comment from the clip above saying Williams "improves" on the original.

To those people who cry War on Christmas, this is your battle anthem.

Edit: I had to try three times to get this YouTube link to embed onto this blog. I have never had a problem until today. Andy Williams is a worthy opponent.
