Stone Soup Croutons, 2-15-23: Here is a Poem in a Family Way

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

Skoot killed it on Wednesday. I looked a the overall them of the entire open mic and found it to be family. It got me thinking about family, and it became this poem, like it or not.

If you haven't yet, please consider supporting Skoot by donating either via Cashapp at $SkootWIll or Venmo at Joseph-Mosby-1. Thanks for reading.

Whoops!

It looks like Joseph Skoot Mosby's birthday is today, not yesterday. Wonder how I made that mistake.

SAFE DISTANCE EDITION - Stone Soup Croutons, 2-3-21: A Student of QU Speaks

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have an award nominated book out now collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

Skoot Mosby's feature was so filled with laughs, I made myself asthmatic. The most fun I had this week.  So why did I write a poem based on reprehensible people like this? It was just too much of a perfect storm of coincidental words and phrases.

You should watch the whole show. It's a lot more fun than this week's piece makes it out to be. Everyone bought their A game. It felt as if they planned to feed me today's poem. I'm glad I got to write it live as the event was happening, only adding the last lines today.

Back to work. I lost a week of my time due to the vaccine and other health issues coming up simultaneously. I'll let you know more about next week's feature when I know. Thanks for reading.

I can always rely on Skoot to kill it on the mic. He's been killing it on his livestreams over the past few months, so I know he hasn't lost his chops.

He's featured in almost every location Stone Soup has been in since i took over as host. Let's check off the netherworld of the Internet this Wednesday for a bingo.

Join us on Wednesday, February 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM ET by clicking this link.

People I want to see at Stone Soup Tonight

I used to do a post like this every Monday years ago, when Stone Soup fell on a Monday. The habit fell by the wayside after Stone Soup moved from Mondays. I'm bringing this routine back and including some photos that may not even be posted anywhere else on my social media. Both photos today are black and white, given that it's a theme I stumbled into with the posts over at Oddball Magazine today.

Black Byrd

It's been a while. She posted on line that she would be online for the open mic. I hope it works out. The connection has been sketchy for her the last couple of times.

Skoot

Skoot has been very busy lately, ensconcing himself in the local battle rap scene (which I had no idea existed in Boston until he started tagging me about it in posts). It would be nice if he stopped by and gave us all a special update.

Stone Soup Croutons, 3-4-20, Duck and Grow

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here. To paraphrase Lorne Michaels, this poem doesn't go up because it's ready, it goes up because it's Friday morning.

It's always great when Skoot Mosby comes to Stone Soup. This time, he had a full feature and was introduced by Black Byrd, whose video of the event was extremely helpful for recapping his rapid fire reading. From Wednesday's close-knit group, a lot of life experiences were shared that night. I could only relate to most of them as an old guy who came from the suburbs over two decades ago. I appreciated hearing all of it and did the best I could with this week's poem. Of all the thoughts during what was a loaded week, these are the ones that got put on the page. Thanks for reading.
