I Had Issues! My Old Review of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox

Now that I'm almost done posting these reviews, I feel less proud of these "By-The-Numbers" reviews. They served their purpose, but they're like CinemaSins without ever hearing a "ding." Still, it was fun to write them at the time. That's how I was able to get this out before my time was done at the site. I just don't see myself ever doing another one. I'll still tackle the Identity Crisis mini-series someday, just not as a By-The-Numbers. Hope you liked them for what they were. Originally published October 3, 2013. Edited for clarity. Additional note: Number 4. had twice the number of links, but I choose not to link some of that work this time around.

I Had Issues! My Twelfth Comic Book Haiku

We're almost at the end. Just a few more reviews and cheap shots left. It's nice to archive this stuff, but it will be nicer to finish. Originally published March 26, 2013.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Action Comics #18

Only a few more reviews to go after this one, then I'm done with this feature. This one marked the end of an era, even if I did try to persist for a little while longer. This (and many other things behind the scenes) took the wind out of my sails when it came to contributing to the website. At least I got to close a book on a series I followed since I started the gig. Originally published March 21, 2013. Edited for clarity with extra art added.

I Had Issues! My Tenth Comic Book Haiku

Another haiku covering up for the lack of an in-depth review. Though I prefer his All-Star Superman, I enjoyed much of Grant Morrison's run on the New 52 version of Action Comics. And hey, if you're fretting about how to make Superman relevant, just go with his Super Obama from this run. Hell, you already have Michael B. Jordan interested!

Other note: I thank the person who commented on the original site who pointed out in the original post "[T]he first post-crisis appearance of Mr. Mxyzptlk, it was revealed to be pronounced Mix-yez-pittle-ick," thereby making my haiku one syllable too long. I corrected it. To be fair, I was going by the Superman TAS version, which was pronounced "Mix-Yez-Spit-Lick." A lot of thinking goes into seventeen syllables, no matter how goofy the outcome! I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Aquaman #7-14

Well, this was a surprise. I knew this review was up next, but I had completely forgotten writing it. So I was surprised when I finally clicked on the link. I was clearly having fun, given ho many graphics I used below. Too many, I'm sure. Hey, nothing wrong with a little fun at the cost of your credibility and perceived level of maturity. Plus, it's nice to know I could still have fun even after the gig had gotten more than a little unpleasant. Originally published December 6, 2012. Edited for clarity.

I Had Issues! My Ninth Comic Book Haiku

This haiku was written as a way to stall for time before I wrote a longer review. That eventually came out a month. You'll get to read it next week. Originally published November 15, 2012.

I Had Issues! My Failed "If Comics Were Honest" Column

I was always trying to find quick ways to produce content for the site I used to work for. It never quite worked out for most of my ideas, as they always took longer than anticipated.

As I mentioned before with my first attempt with this, I stole the idea from Tegan O'Neil, who was better at it but stopped doing it way too soon. This was my first and only attempt to do it regularly. Just as well, since I stopped reading a lot of mainstream comics and mainstream news not too long after this. I could have never maintained it. Plus I could never do my alternate text justice since I have next to no graphic design experience and no Photoshop or other programs to help me. At least you can see the kernel of a good idea that should be done more today by somebody more talented. Originally published October 19, 2012.

I Had Issues! My Fifth Comic Book Haiku

With the Shazam movie out now, I should point out that the contents in the comic lacked any of the playfulness in the film version. I think it's due to Geoff Johns' tone deaf writing mixed with Gary Frank making everyone look a little crazy. If felt kind of...hateful. I stand by what meager words I had for this book at the time. I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Action Comics #7-12

Though my opinion of this series hasn't changed much when I wrote this review, the Grant Morrison run on Action Comics was one of the few highlights of the New 52. Originally published August 30, 2012. Edited for clarity.

I Had Issues! Here's My Old Take on the New 52's Jutice League #12

I was a big fan of Tegan O'Neil's comic mashups back in the day. His take on Identity Crisis was amazing back in the day, not to mention the sole voice of reason while that miserable series was running. I really wanted to copy that, but I didn't have the resources and know-how available. Didn't stop me from trying a mashup or two. A few years back, I wanted to react to the ridiculous hype when Superman and Wonder Woman kissed in that issue of Justice League. So I did the best I could with Microsoft Paint, and below is what I came up with.

A tip: When you're trying to do something that looks quick, it often is anything but quick.

At least I know how to do a better job now. Plus next time I'll use comic sans just to be ironic.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's O.M.A.C. #5-8

One of my favorite reviews from this time in my life. Part of my New 52 Pick Up series originally titled "One More Allusion to Cards," giving a nod to the O.M.A.C. acronym inspired story titles in each issue. I was starting to hit my stride. And I got access to a scanner! As Weird Al would say, the world was my burrito. I really, really hope to do more stuff like this in the future, as long as I have books like O.M.A.C. to engage me and the time to engage with them. The second part might be tough. originally published June 28, 2012. Edited for clarity.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #1-6

Part of my 52 Pick up series, part of the original title for this was "Who Dealt This Mess?"  The worst book I read during my time browsing the New 52. That's all I'll add to the intro. Originally published March 8, 2012. Edited for clarity and to remove references to the original site where this was first published.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of Aquaman #6

This review needs a longer intro than usual. In fact, it's this review in particular that made me want to have intros to all my old pieces in the first place.

I Had Issues! Why I Can't Talk to My Girlfriend About Comics, Part Three

Okay. Another one of these columns I tried to do fast for that old website. Why did I only do eight of these then? That's another story. Originally published January 31, 2012.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Action Comics #4-5

Another New 52 Pick-Up review. Thought I was so clever with a "Draw Two" in the original title. Originally published January 5, 2012. Edited for spelling and clarity. Also, I'm not including the million of links referencing my own work. That was too much the first time around.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Batman #1-4

My "Aces High" pick in my continujing 52 Pick Up review from a few years back. Not much here, which made me consider not including it in my archived work, but I went back to Batman one or two more times at least, so I'll keep it here just to mark what I was thinking as time went on. Originally published December 31, 2011. Edited for clarity.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Aquaman #1-4

Another one of my "By The Numbers" reviews. Another fun one to do, especially when I liked the early issues of Aquaman. Originally published on December 30, 2011. Edited for clarification, spelling and grammatical errors. Apparently I didn't know how tell the difference between "its" and "it's" yet.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's O.M.A.C. #1-4

Despite the long-term failure of the New 52, I still have fond memories of DC's short-lived O.M.A.C.title. By this time, I was getting more confident about using graphics and pages from the comic. It got sillier towards the end, but what the hell. Originally published December 23, 2011. Edited for clarity and spelling errors.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Detective Comics #1-4

My first review documenting the first of many disappointments from the New 52. Disappointed that I never made the prediction that the Jokerface story was going to be resolved in Snyder's more popular Batman book. Originally published December 13, 2011. Edited for clarity and spelling corrections.
