May 9: The SOUPed Up Poetry Slam is On!

The SOUPed Up Poetry  slam is taking place tonight. Kind of crept up on me. I will be keeping time and score and begging for an early night. The grand prize is $100, so you don't want to give me an early night. Take part in one of the funnest poetry events to take place at the Dudley Cafe.

The SOUP'ed Up Poetry Slam is Bigger and Blacker for March

The Society of Urban Poetry feels that Black History Month should have an extension this year, and who are we to argue? Be in the audience for the SOUP'ed Up Poetry Slam on Tuesday, March 7 at the Dudley Cafe. Enter the slam for a chance to win a $100 cash prize. Say hi to me, as I'll be in the back keeping time and score.

February 27: Skoot Makes his Mark at Stone Soup Poetry

Skoot has been a steady presence at Stone Soup and the rest of the poetry scene for quite a while. He's been an especially strong presence a the recent SOUP'ed up Slam events at The Dudley Cafe, which finally convinced me to ask him to feature. I am thrilled that he accepted. It's likely that most of you have only heard Skoot for three minutes at a time. Be at Stone Soup on February 27 to see him do the full feature I know he can do.

January 10: The SOUP'ed Up Poetry Slam Returns

I will be participating on some level (keeping time or score most likely) in the first 2017 slam competion at The Dudley Cafe this Tuesday on January 10. It's hosted (as aways) by the Society of Urban Poetry and might even have DiDi Delgado hosting with her newborn daughter. There's a huge grand prize for the winning slam poet and an amazing show for everyone else, whether you're competing or just watching.

Stone Soup Croutons BONUS, 12-6-16, Countdown

Stone Soup Croutons was a weekly poem I wrote using lines and impressions picked up from poems overheard from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can see the other ones I wrote by clicking here.

I went on hiatus a while back, but I'm coming back for a not to the slam that took place last Tuesday at The Dudley Cafe, where kept time and score.

December 6: SOUP's Final Slam of The Year

With the kind of year 2016 has been, it's only fitting that we give it some kind of send-off, be it a good-bye or good riddance. I'm not competing in the slam hosted by the Society of Urban Poetry on December 6, but I will be helping to keep time and score for the event. That means there are plenty of openings for those of you who might want to compete for the hundred dollar cash prize. Bring yourself and three poems to the Dudley Cafe in December.

People I Want to See Tonight at Stone Soup

Angelica Maria Aguilera and Gladys Teresa Hidalgo

Gladys (seen right) came back to Stone Soup this past Monday. Angelica (left), on the other hand, I last saw when it was still jacket weather.  Hopefully, she'll be back for Dexter Garcia's feature in a couple of weeks.

 Matt Parker

One of SOUP's mainstays, I haven't seen enough of him these past few months. If I don't see him tonight, I'll be sure to see him (along with Angelica and Gladys) on July 5th for the SOUP'ed Up Poetry Slam.
