Thirty Days of Stone Soup Stuff

This is a 2004 painting/mixed media piece from Jack Powers using his visual artist moniker "Jack Debris." I participated in an art auction and won it for thirty dollars. 

I scanned the art with the frame still on. I'm afraid it might fall apart if I try to take it out. 

When the pandemic is over, I would love to see if his other larger pieces are still at the International Community Church in Allston. 

John Pirolli aka Buddah (1950-2020)

On Thursday July 30, we lost John Pirolli. I never knew him by that name (on Facebook, he called himself Daemon Magus). He was better known as the intentionally misspelled Buddah, a poet  and would-be manager of Fire of Prometheus, whose numbers included local legend Bill Barnum.

"Peace Fire," a Poem by Carol Weston (with John Voigt)

Arguably the best performance of Carol Weston's long poetic journey. Caught on film by Bill Perrault. Accompanied by musician John Voigt, "Peace Fire" was performed for Stone Soup Poetry's fortieth anniversary at the International Community Church. It also served as a wake for Stone Soup's founder Jack Powers, who passed away on October 14, 2010.

The Podium Survives!

As the Out of The Blue  scrambles to move everything during it's final hours in Central Square Cambridge, thanks to DiDi Delgado, the podium Stone Soup Poetry has used for over a decade--maybe closer to two--is now in a temporary home.

Stone Soup Poetry is not meeting this Monday. I hope we can meet before the end of the year. I will let you know if and when that happens. In the meantime, I hope to talk to people in the hopes of not only securing a new home for the series but also a permanent home for this podium.

The International Community Church in Allston is a place Jack Powers enjoyed going to in the last years of his life. It also became home to a number of Jack's found art creations (created under the name "Jack Debris"), and I'm hoping the church takes the podium as one last piece of Jack Powers/Stone Soup history.
