Totem Remnant

Almost three years later, the Visitor/Void pole that collected all the sticker badges patients had to wear during the height of COVID-19 has been reduced to only what you see here. It makes me sad. That pole was an odd memorial to that period of time when we were actively trying to stop the spread. Not that I want so see another pole like that in my time. Then again, we don't have that choice, do we? Or maybe we do, and that's the tragedy.

Totem Update

Haven't checked the Visitor/Void pole since March. Checked it out on Tuesday. Glad it's still up, though it's lost some mystique. Why else would people be putting flyers on it?

Making Their Mark

I've had to walk to Kenmore a bit this month. Came across this pole with patient stickers near Brigham and Women's and Beth Israel. Reminds me of the Visitor/Void pole near my work. Cracks me up that patients are inclined to do this. Like amateur graffiti artists.

Surprise!

Since my last report on the "Visitor/Void" graffiti pole (I called it a "memorial," but that sounds too presumptuous and fatalistic at least for now), I found another graffiti pole with more of that same sticker.

Another pole covered with a smattering "Visitor/Void" stickers, taken August 5, 2021

It would be crazy and frightening if we had even more poles like this as time goes on.

A Spreading Pattern?

"Visitor Void" sticker stuck sideways on green pole on Huntington Street

I wrote about the "Visitor Void" stickers outside my work on Monday. Yesterday, I found this one near the bus stop in between the Brigham Circle and Longwood Green Line stops.

Either Brigham or another medical center is using the same stickers, or the ones form my work are getting around.

It's unrealistic, but if it's the latter, I'd love to see these everywhere.

A Monument in the Making

Since the pandemic, the hospital I work at has required patients coming in to wear identifying stickers with "Visitor" written on them. They used to be color coded stickers but eventually became a white label with room to write down the date of their visit. Many of the also have "VOID" written in red.
