Carol Weston celebrated her birthday this past Saturday at the United First Parish Church, and Jim Dunn was one of several people who came to pay tribute to Our Lady Queen of Stone Soup.

Summer 2022 Highlights: Stone Soup Goes Live Again

After over two years, Stone Soup had it's first live show on June 8 with Jim Dunn. We continued with The Garage Poets on July 14 and then had to cancel August due to my girlfriend's injuries. Luckily, Ed Gault stepped in to host Miriam O'Neal's feature on September 14. The shows have been fraught with hurdles as I struggle to make Stone Soup a hybrid series and stream our live shows. I'm still figuring that out. If I'm lucky, I can continue to figure this out in the fall.

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

This Wednesday, Stone Soup had it's first live show in over two years, and Jim Dunn was the feature. Gloria Monaghan came with her poetry students to help fill the seats. It was a beautiful live show that had an online Zoom component that didn't work as well. Hopefully, better measures will be taken next month when The Garage Poets stop by to feature. 

As a result of so much juggling, I didn't jot as much as I wanted to from the open mic, and there was no video of the performance. Therefore, this week's Crouton is going to be very short and fragmented. Doesn't do the open mic or feature justice. I hope you're in the audience this July.

So I'm new to this live performance thing all over again. I'll get the kinks out next time. Thanks for reading.

For the first time in two years, I have to get out of work on time to make the train to get to the Assemblage Gallery for tonight's Stone Soup with Jim Dunn. I hope I see some of you tonight.

June 8: Stone Soup Slowly Coming Back and Bringing Jim Dunn With Us

After being an online venue for more than two years, Stone Soup is making a comeback with a return to The Assemblage Gallery on June 8 with feature Jim Dunn. Dunn is an old friend of Jack Powers and Stone Soup with several performances under his belt at the venue. It will be a pleasure to have him kick off a new beginning as Stone Soup finally steps outside to get its bearings.

Thirty Days of Stone Soup Stuff

Looks like I'll have to post twice today to keep up. 

Another Bill Perrault photo of the late Charles Shivley, a gay rights activist who read at Stone Soup a couple of times (with the help of Jpeole im Dunn, standing to the right of Jack Powers watching on). 

Shivley's Alzheimer’s illness was in effect during this time, so I never got to really speak with him, though he could still read a poem after all those years in between all the stories he still kept in his head. 

 I hope I can uncover some video of Shivley reading. It would be great to share after all this time.
